With its on-road refinement, well-trimmed cab and conventional off-road ability, the 2012 Jeep Grand Jeep Cherokee is a fully competitive midsize SUV. Jeep Grand Jeep Cherokee SRT8 offers the following pros: Available V8 power; high tow rating; upscale dashboard with many available luxury features; capable off-road prowess; outlandish SRT8 model. Jeep Grand Jeep Cherokee SRT8 drawbacks are: Somewhat limited trunk space; fussy auxillary navigator.

The 2012 Jeep Grand Jeep Cherokee is a five-passenger midsize SUV that comes in Laredo, Limited and Overland trims. Every is available with 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains.

Traditional equipment contains 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglamps, cruise control, dual-zone air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped helm and a six-speaker audio system with a CD player and an optional stereo slot. An auxillary suite adds keyless entry/ignition, a performance driver bench (including lumbar adjustment), radio and a Usb/ipod interface. The Safety and Comfort suite contains remote motor start, Bluetooth, a trunk cover, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a Usb/ipod interface. A back-up camera, a performance passenger bench, heated front seatings, leather upholstery and a nine-speaker luxury audio system (with radio, HD radio, digital audio cargo and a touchscreen interface) are also available.

The Limited gets all the Laredo's auxillary equipment plus 18-inch wheels, add-on chrome trim, bi-xenon headlights, back parking sensors, a Garmin navigator, automatic wipers, auto-dimming look mirrors, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a passenger bench, dual-zone automatic conditioning, driver memory functions, heated front and back seatings and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The Limited model's features include a performance liftgate, a performance and heated tilt-and-telescoping helm, ventilated front seatings and an updated navigator with real-time traffic. Large 20-inch wheels are also auxillary.

The Overland gets all the Limited's features, plus the variable-height Quadra-lift air suspension and special look and dashboard trim that contains a mesh grille, perforated leather seats and a wood/leather helm. The Overland Summit tops it off with add-on look chrome accents, original 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, exclusive black olive wood cab trim, a heated helm, updated leather upholstery (with accent piping and original stitching) and luxury floor mats. The Overland Summit also features adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and blind-spot/rear cross-path detection systems. A rear-seat entertainment system is auxillary for the Limited, Overland and Overland Summit.

The high performance SRT8 comes with most of the Overland's luxury features along with an exclusive V8 motor, color-keyed grille/side sills/rear spoiler, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, LED running lights, an adaptive suspension, performance-tuned steering, Brembo brakes, a limited-slip back differential, paddle shifters, leather/suede sport seatings and carbon-fiber cab accents.

Auxillary on the 4WD Laredo and Limited is an off-road suite that adds skid plates, off-road tires, tow hooks, a full-size spare and, on the Laredo, hill descent control and the Quadra-trac II 4WD system. An updated off-road suite adds to the above features an air suspension, towing equipment (also available separately), an electronic limited-slip differential and the Quadra-drive II 4WD system. .
