The 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-class is a five-passenger, full-size luxury sedan available in S400 Hybrid, S350 Bluetec, S550, S600, S63 AMG and Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG versions. Every is representative of a various motor, and in the case of the AMG models, a higher degree of other performance features.

Each model comes traditional with 18-inch wheels, an adaptive air suspension, active bi-xenon headlights with automatic high beams and LED running lights, a performance cargo closer and a sunroof. Convenience and comfort items include dual-zone automatic conditioning, 10-way performance front seatings (with heating, ventilation, four-way lumbar adjustment and memory functions), leather upholstery and extended dashboard trim, a performance tilt-and-telescoping helm, auto-dimming driver-side and rearview mirrors and a performance back sunshade. Electronic features include the COMAND controls interface, Bluetooth, a navigator, voice controls and a 15-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound stereo system with a Six-cd/dvd changer, HD radio, satellite radio and an Ipod interface.

The S63 AMG contains those items, but adds 20-inch AMG wheels and specific look-and-feel cues, as well as Amg-tuned suspension, steering, brakes and exhaust. Inside you get a sport helm, shift paddles, an improved instrument cluster and Amg-specific leather and trim. Also included is Active Body Control, a suspension technology that reduces body roll in the corners. The available AMG Performance suite increases its motor output and top speed.

Auxillary on the S350, S400 and S550, and traditional on the S63 is the Luxury 2 suite that contains a rearview camera, front and back parking sensors, keyless ignition/entry and front seatings with massage, adjustable/active bolsters and improved headrests. The following auxillary packages are available on the S63 as well. The Driver Assistance suite adds adaptive cruise control as well as blind-spot and lane-departure warning systems that take evasive action in the event of driver inaction (though not in the S400).

The Back Seat suite adds four-zone automatic climate control and eight-way performance back seatings with memory, heating and ventilation. The Back Seat Entertainment suite contains a dual-screen back bench entertainment system and two back bench remotes that can control all functions in the COMAND system. Also auxillary are power-operated shades for the back side windows, a panoramic sunroof, a heated helm, a night-vision warning system and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The S600 and Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG get all of the above auxillary features traditional. The S600 also has 19-inch wheels, improved brakes and Active Body Control. The Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG deserves the S63's extra performance improvements.

Auxillary on each S-class is Splitview, which enables the driver and passenger to exterior at various media on the center COMAND display. It contains a COMAND remote control for the passenger. .
